Jonathan Montalvo-Urquizo

(From CIMAT's official webpage)

PhD in Engineering with Specialization in Industrial Mathematics from the Universität Bremen (Germany, 2008), Master of Science in Industrial Mathematics with specialization in Mathematical Modeling and Scientific Computing from the Techinische Universität Kaiserslautern (Germany, 2004), Bachelor in Applied Mathematics from the Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila (Mexico, 2000).

Before joining CIMAT, Dr. Montalvo-Urquizo worked as full-time researcher on projects of numerical modeling and scientific computing at the Zentrum für Technomathematik of Bremen (2004-2013). He has teaching experiences from his time working at the Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila (2000-2001) and the Universität Bremen (2008-2013). He has also been invited by the Mexican National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) to collaborate as Reviewer for its Programme on Incentives for Innovation (PEI) in the 2013 and 2014 editions and belongs to the National System of Researchers (SNI) Level I.

He has been awarded the "Sotero Prieto" 2000 award for the best Bachelor thesis in Mathematics from Mexico and was distinguished by the Mexican Mathematical Society (SMM) with an invitation to be plenary speaker at the National Congress of the SMM in its 2013 edition.

His research focuses on the numerical solution of partial differential equations applied to physical phenomena, mainly in welding, turning, milling, rolling or heat treatment of steels. He also has experience in modeling and finite element simulation of processes in micro-scale deformation of metallic components in steel and aluminum, as well as physical transformation processes using laser techniques.
